How to Center Horizontally When Printing in Excel

Excel is such a useful application that you can find yourself incorporating it into many elements of both your personal and professional life. Whether you’re balancing a budget or creating a sales report, Excel can make sure that you do it effectively and efficiently.

But one area where Excel doesn’t shine is how a spreadsheet looks when you print it with the default settings. It can be difficult to read, and it simply doesn’t look very good. One of the steps you can take to improve this, however, is to make sure that your spreadsheet is centered horizontally on the page. This is especially helpful when you have a sheet that only has a few thin columns, as they would be printed along the left edge of the paper by default.

How to Center Horizontally When Printing in Excel

The steps in this guide were performed in Microsoft Excel for Office 365. By changing the setting in this article you will be centering your entire spreadsheet on the printed page. We are focusing specifically on centering that spreadsheet horizontally, but the option to center vertically is also located on the same menu.

Step 1: Open your spreadsheet in Excel.

Step 2: Select the Page Layout tab at the top of the window.

Step 3: Click the small Page Setup button at the bottom-right corner of the Page Setup section of the ribbon.

Step 4: Choose the Margins tab at the top of the window.

Step 5: Check the box to the left of Horizontally, then click the OK button.

The method above for centering your page horizontally is just one of many that can make your spreadsheet look better when you print. Another easy change to make is printing your spreadsheet’s gridlines. This makes data much easier to read, especially if there’s a lot of similar numbers on the page.
