How to Download PPT from Google Slides

While the Google Slides application has become a popular method for creating slideshows and presentations, many schools and organizations still use Microsoft Powerpoint.

Luckily these two applications are fairly compatible, as you are able to upload Powerpoint files to Google Drive and edit them.

But you are also able to create a Powerpoint copy of a Google Slides presentation using the steps that we discuss below.

How to Create a Powerpoint Copy of a Google Slides Presentation

  1. Open your Google slideshow.
  2. Click the File tab.
  3. Select Download.
  4. Choose the Microsoft Powerpoint option.
  5. If prompted, enter the file name and choose a location for the file.

The Google Drive suite of applications has become a popular alternative to Microsoft Office. It’s free to Google users, is a fully-capable collection of programs, and it’s easy to access all of your files from any computer with an Internet connection.

But not everyone uses Google applications, so you may find yourself in a situation where you need to share a Google Slides presentation with someone that doesn’t use Google Slides. Fortunately, if that person has Powerpoint, you can download a .ppt version of the file that they can open and edit in Powerpoint.

How to Download Google Slides File as a Powerpoint File (Guide with Pictures)

The steps in this article were performed in the desktop version of the Google Chrome Web browser, but will also work in other desktop browsers like Firefox or Safari.

Step 1: Sign into your Google Drive at https://drive.google.com and open the Slides file that you wish to download as a .ppt file.

Step 2: Select the File tab at the top-left of the window.

Step 3: Choose the Download As option, then select the Microsoft Powerpoint option.

Step 4: Enter the desired name for the file into the File Name field, choose the location for the downloaded file, then click the Save button.

Now that you know how to download a PPT file version of your Google Slides slideshow you will be able to quickly perform this conversion any time that you need it in the future.
